GTAIM - Digitalisation of the supply chain
For decades, logisticians have argued that the strength of an efficient supply chain is its ability to be responsive, flexible and resilient in all circumstances to meet the demands of more demanding customers for transparency and tracking of goods and services. This idea has supported the digital revolution in all supply chain operations. This includes periods of health crisis, humanitarian aid, international development, the impact of geopolitical changes on the organisation of the supply chain, etc.
From a performance perspective, the digitalisation of the supply chain raises many challenges: improving the customer experience and the productivity of operations, providing end-to-end visibility and traceability of flows and products, guaranteeing data security, meeting major environmental and ecological challenges, etc.
Thus, it is no longer possible to keep up to date either the list of innovations, tools and techniques, software designed to digitalise logistics operations, or the list of companies offering turnkey solutions for the digitalisation of the supply chain, as the phenomenon has grown so rapidly.
At a time when the digitalisation of the supply chain is flourishing with Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, crowd logistics, electronic platforms, blockchains, drones, Cloud Computing and a new organisation of IT that is leading companies towards a supply chain 4.0..., it is time to take stock of the digitalisation of the supply chain, to propose theoretical frameworks for analysis and research methodologies, to share experiences, etc.
Themes envisaged
- How does digitalisation renew logistics practices and supply chain management?
- What are the challenges posed by the digitalisation of the supply chain? How will organisations cope with it and what organisational capacities need to be developed?
- Who are the big winners of supply chain digitalisation? What lessons have been learned from the case studies of companies that have successfully completed this digital revolution?
- What theoretical frameworks, in management sciences (organisation, IS, logistics, HR, operations management, etc.) or others, allow us to understand and synthesise the digitalisation of the supply chain?
- Is the digitisation of the supply chain reliable? Does it allow visibility along the supply chains? What is the global future in terms of standards, IT security and data protection?
- Does digitalisation make the supply chain greener? What added value on our lifestyle? What impact will it have on tomorrow's jobs? What impact (financial, cultural, organisational, etc.) will it have on large companies? Do SMEs have the means to follow?
- How can the digitalisation of the supply chain be reconciled with a turbulent environment such as COVID19?
- What prospects can be envisaged for the digitalisation of the supply chain in the near future?
